Improving performance and setting targets
How do you reduce the impact of your company or organisation? You make a to-do list and set targets to stay focused.
Reducing your impact
How do you reduce the impact of your company or organisation? These are the steps you need to take:
- Pay particular attention to the activities in your company or organisation that have the most impact, for example use of electricity and commuting/business travel (see baseline measurement)
- Put impact/emission reduction tips that are relevant to your situation on an action list.
- Carry out the impact/emission reduction activities.
Set targets to keep your company sharp
What is your company or organisation aiming for in terms of reducing its impact? What is your ambition? By setting targets you make your planned efforts more concrete and you can determine annually whether you are moving in the right direction.
A target may be something like:
- We will cut our carbon footprint in half by 2030 or even reduce it to zero.
- We will reduce our electricity consumption per employee or product unit by 20% by 2030.
- We will be separating at least 85% of our waste by 2025.
These are the steps you need to take:
- Select the indicators you want to link your targets to, for example emissions, electricity consumption or percentage of separated waste.
- Set the targets for your company or organisation.
- Visualise your annual progress towards the targets in a chart or graph.
Additional sustainability targets (CSR)
Perhaps your company or organisation would like to include social, socio-economic or other aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in addition to the environment.
These are the steps you need to take:
- For the baseline measurement select social and socio-economic CSR indicators, like sickness absence and internships for example.
- Set the targets for your company or organisation.
- Visualise your annual progress against your targets in a chart or graph.
